This 1964 Ford F100 factory produced “HiBoy” 4WD, 4-speed, received a cosmetic restoration 12 years ago and has been used sparingly ever since, accumulating only a few thousand miles. The previous long-time owner reports the mileage as accurate at 117,774 miles (showing 17,774 on the 5 digit odometer). The F100 is part of the previous owner’s extensive collection of close to 100 vehicles consisting of a wide range of American trucks, muscle cars, and cars of interest. With a particular affinity for unique trucks, the owner added this example to the collection as a result of it being an unmolested, originally configured, early 1960’s 4WD in very nice original condition.
After he purchased the truck, he had his staff complete a cosmetic restoration along with addressing any mechanical needs. The F100 received a complete re-spray in its factory correct/produced color of Dynasty Green along with a new interior. The previous owner reports the truck had no previous damage, a straight body with older, faded paint at the time of the restoration. The truck retains a correct, factory overhead 292c.i. “Y block” V8, 4-speed transmission, rear end, and many other factory original/correct components. The few previous owners resisted the temptation to modify the truck and it remains in its original configuration including the factory oil bath set-up, factory wheels with proper sized tires, and correct exterior and interior trim.
The interior was updated with current materials but retains a period appearance. The seats and door panels are excellent, and the F100 is fitted with seat belts. Moving the seat forward reveals a painted gas tank and very clean behind seat area. Carpeting is free from damage and is presentable, but would benefit from a thorough cleaning. Rubber mats cover the driver and passenger side. The F100 has a factory in-dash radio that turns on/lights up but is missing a speaker. A working AM/FM CD player is mounted discreetly in the glove box so as to not detract from the 1960’s look but to provide a good sound system. Gauges are functional and a dual cigarette lighter outlet is installed below the dash for use with cell phones or other devices.
During the early 1960’s Ford utilized Uni-bodies for their 2 wheel drive, lighter use pick-ups. However, they experienced problems during heavy loading of the bed and returned to the two-piece box/cab in mid-1963. Fortunately, Ford chose to utilize the more sturdy separate pick-up box for the 4-wheel drives. The bed on this truck was painted when the complete re-paint was done and is in very good condition. The floor of the bed was finished in bed liner and remains very presentable. The rear latches are not correct, but original chrome hinges are included (shown in the photo with the original valve covers).
The exterior of the truck shows very well with high gloss paint completed by a specialty paint shop, not a “production” paint shop. The body and bed are very straight and free from any dents/damage. The door gaps and hood gaps are excellent with the doors closing with a solid “thump” and excellent hood fitment. The limited trim is in good original condition and appears to be largely original and in “California” condition, free from pitting and signs of rust. The emblems, front grill, tail and front turn signal lights appear to be original and are in good condition.
There is no rust through in the common problem areas for the F100 including the rocker panels, rear lower fenders, and lower front valance, and no repairs have been made since the restoration. Minor touch-up to the right side door that was well done by professionals, but a slight color difference can be noted in certain lights. There are some paint defects that are shown in detail in the photographs that include paint bubbles on the roof seams, rust above the driver’s side windshield post at the roof, and a few small bubbles on the body. However, while the chassis shows characteristic surface rust, it is solid as the photos show.
The F100 has factory steel wheels mounted to older Firestone M&S tires, size 7.50 x 16.” Unlike so many trucks that we see, the owners have resisted the temptation to add large wheels and tires, raise the truck above factory height, modify fender openings or make other significant/non-reversible changes to the interior, exterior or drive-line. A proper factory Ford mounted spare is included and loose in the trucks bed.
This 1964 Ford F100 4WD was a factory produced “HiBoy” fitted with a 4-speed manual floor shift. The truck has a 1st “Granny Gear” and syncromesh gears in 2nd-4th. The VIN # / trim tags decodes as follows:
VIN NUMBER DECODING
F11CR552469
F11= F100 4WD
C = 1964
R = San Jose Assembly Plant
552469 = Production Sequence #
TRIM TAG DECODING
WB = Wheelbase 120”
Color = “D” (Dynasty Green)
Model “F110” – F100 4WD
Body = “F81” Conventional Cab (1964)
Transmission =”F4”-Speed Warner T98A
Axle = “12” 1963 & 1964
Max G.V.W. 5,600 lbs.
Cert Net HP = 135@ RPM 3,800
D.S.O 743458 (# identifying the truck as a Domestic Special Order)
Mechanically, the F100 is very strong. The engine starts immediately with a pull of the choke whether cold, or warm, and idles smoothly and quietly. The truck runs very well, with no hesitation, and a clutch that engages properly. The in-dash temperature reads 160 degrees when the truck is warmed up, and even in our warm California climate the truck runs cool. Brakes stop the truck straight and true, and the e-brake is functional and adjusted properly. The 4-speed transmission does not pop out of gear, have excessive noise, or demonstrate any drivability issues. As with most 4WD’s that have a 1st “Granny Gear” we start out in 2nd but first is fully functional, as are the synchros in 2nd-4th gears. The 4WD requires manual locking of the hubs, as designed, but
A discreetly mounted, in-dash VDO tachometer is fully functional with an adjustable rev limit indicator. The mileage of 17,774 (117,774) is reported as original but not documented. However, based on the trucks running condition and drivability is certainly believable. The electrical system is also fully functional including windshield wipers, turn signals, lights, dash lights, brake lights, and even the speedometer dash light.
This F100 is a truck that can be used and enjoyed “As-Is” with no needed work and represents a very attractive example of a rare, early ‘60’s Four Wheel Drive F100. It remains a strong work horse with classic F100 looks.
PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE – THINGS TO CONSIDER
As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller’s background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to:
– How long have they been in business?
– How much experience do they have with collector cars?
– How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)?
– How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle?
– Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply “glamour shots” taken from a distance?
– Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction?
– What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license?
– Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances?
– Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation?
– Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?
ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD.
– Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same, small, California town for over 21 years. We operate a small “brick & mortar”, indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles.
– The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from “distressed” sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair.
We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions.
– We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping.
– Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 850 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World.
– We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World.
– Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions
– We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area.
MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION
– As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet.
– In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, a documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser’s responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license/registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law.
– While we encourage telephone calls to discuss this vehicle in greater detail. Also, if you would prefer that we call you to answer any questions about the vehicle; shipping alternatives, etc. please e-mail us with your telephone number and will gladly get back in touch with you.
– We encourage inspections of this Ford by serious, qualified individuals or professional inspectors. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time.
– As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd.
– Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used “pre-owned” vehicle. Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the “realities” of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said, collector / “specialty” car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn’t trade them for anything!!
– The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car’s owner / owners or outside sources. As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of “numbers” and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering.
