This replica Austin Healey 3000 was manufactured by CRD (Cavaliere Roadster Development) as a Cavaliere model with the goal of creating a car that had the charm of a 60’s roadster but offered affordability, high quality, performance and comfort. The car was completed in 2016 and carries a clear West Virginia title in the owner’s name. At the time of his purchase, the car had 340 miles with fewer than 200 miles being added by the current owner.
Finished in Healey Blue over black interior, the car features a GM drive-line including a 350c.i. V8 with a 4 bbl. carburetor mated to a 700R4 Gm automatic with overdrive. The 3000 is fitted with independent tubular coilover suspension, a 10 bolt rear end, 4-wheel power ventilated disc brakes, and rack & pinion steering. Adding to the muscular appearance of the V8 powered 3000 are a set of 5-spoke American Racing wheels wrapped in radial tires. There are yellow fog lights mounted to the front grill along with a front badge identifying the car a “Cavaliere” model.
The interior offers several enhancements over the vintage Healey including a mahogany dash, steering wheel, and a complete compliment of white-faced gauges. Bucket seats are fitted with seat belts and the doors included door “pockets” for convenient storage.
The underside is clean and shows the strengthened chassis, dual free-flow exhaust system, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, aluminum radiator and electric fan, and additional sound and heat insulation. The custom, jig welded custom frame consists of a 92-inch wheelbase utilizing 2”x2”, 2”x3”, and 2”x6” inch rectangular steel. Suspending the chassis are tubular A-arms up front and a solid 10-bolt GM rear axle that’s held in place by a four-link suspension with Panhard bar. Dress-up items in the engine compartment include aluminum and polished components, finned valve covers, and upgraded ignition/wires. The front coilover independent suspension can be viewed from the engine compartment that opens with flush mounted quick release fasteners.
Gallery photos show the car in roadster form along with photos showing the convertible top in the up position, full tonneau cover, and side windows in place.
