1967 Austin Mini Cooper “S”

This 1967 Austin Mini Cooper S is a left-hand drive example that was delivered to San Francisco in August 1967 and was acquired approximately 28 years ago by the current owner, from its original, San Francisco Bay Area owner. A subsequent sub-frame off restoration completed at with a “cost no object” philosophy included a repaint in Tartan red with a white roof, and a complete interior replacement in gold and red brocade consistent with the factory style upholstery.  Receipts document a comprehensive rebuild of all mechanical components including the engine, clutch, replacement of synchros, braking system, suspension, Hydrolastic, gearbox and other items, all performed by respected Mini specialists in Northern California.

The car is powered by a numbers-matching 1,275cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and the numbers matching engine with tag 9F-SA-Y/47113 supported by the British Heritage Certificate (BMIHT) shown in the listing.  Features include a Smiths tachometer, pop-out rear windows, and proper Minilite wheels.  Extensive mechanical work has been performed within the last 200 miles is said to have included a tune-up, a brake service, and refreshes of the cooling system, Hydrolastic suspension and other sorting. This Cooper S includes is being sold with photos taken prior to the restoration including documentation of the bare metal respray and totally rust free, damage free body with all original panels.  The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust is consistent with the numbers on the car and it carries a clean California title in the long time owner’s name.

The high quality respray was completed to high standards with the body removed from the sub-frames and all of the trim removed and replaced with either NOS, replated, or quality replacement parts.  The car retains its original Lucas headlights, pop-out rear windows, and chrome trim, bumpers, and a period bullet-style mirror on the driver’s door. Black California license plates are mounted at either end.

The 10×4.5” silver-painted Minilite wheels are wrapped in Yokohama A-008 tires that show 2015 date codes and measure 165/70. The car rides on Hydrolastic suspension that is said to have been recently refreshed, and the brake system features front discs and rear drums with replacement lines. The factory matching Cooper S steel wheels, including the mounted spare wheel / tire, are included.

The interior remains correctly configured, including the stock black two-spoke steering wheel and an upgraded  8k-rpm Smiths tachometer and a central instrument panel that houses a Smiths 120-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows just over 7k miles.  Due to the age of the Mini, the mileage is being represented as TMU (Total Miles Unknown) but believed to be accurate at 107 miles. Since the restoration, an estimated 2Kmiles have been added and the car has been stored, when not in use, in a climate controlled environments since the comprehensive restoration.

The 1,275cc inline-four is said to have been balanced, blueprinted, and rebuilt by Jon Becker of Mini-Part during the refurbishment and is documented by a detailed receipt along with more recent work totaling over $7,500.00 to freshen the car and ensure that it is in excellent .

The British Motor Industry Heritage certificate lists a build date of August 16, 1967 and shows the factory colors along with the chassis, engine, and body numbers.
