1969 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser

This Land Cruiser was purchased by our longtime customer in July 2010 and is now on consignment at our indoor showroom in Pleasanton, CA.  .  The Land Cruiser was acquired from the original owner who owned it for 40+ years and was located in Lake Tahoe where it spent all of its life until it was purchased by the current S.F. Bay area owner.

The entire vehicle was disassembled for the restoration which took over 5 years, between 2010-2015.  A local specialty body shop completed any minor rust repairs along with a complete re-spray in “Boss Yellow”, a whole roof and bed liner applied to the front floor compartment.  Rock guard non-slip material was applied to the remaining tub areas prior to applying the color.  All new window seals, weather strip and too many other new parts, largely sourced from Specter Off Road (SOR) were added.

The Land Cruiser is fitted with the factory original, restored hardtop.  All body panels are original steel, stainless steel hood latches, aluminum door and hood hinges, restored windshield hinges with windshield that folds down.  New windshield.  Body-fit with aluminum diamond plate corner protection plates.

Custom front and rear bumpers.   Front bumper houses a Warn 8,000 pound winch with remote, a pair of 6” driving lights and tow hooks.  Removable front tow bar.  Rear bumper is custom made of 2” x 4” x ¼” box tubing housing LED functional reverse light, stock combo-lights with LED bulbs and mounted cut 1/8” steel brackets, 2” receiver and tow harness and tow hooks.

Roll bar integrated from original bolt in rear to added 2” front tubes mounted through the floor to mount custom built rock sliders mounted and welded to the frame for superior strength.  All padded and fitted with hand grips.

V8 conversion with crate Chevrolet Vortec Generation 3 5.7 liter 350c.i & throttle body injection.  Electronic ignition, Headman stainless steel headers powder coated in nickel finish, complete new custom exhaust with dual into single exit and stainless steel 4” tip.  EGR delete, high energy plug wires, Platinum spark plugs, new alternator, starter, new 55 psi fuel pump and filter with all lines made professionally with braided stainless steel AP fittings.  K&N cold air intake, Air Ram throttle body spacer, new Toyota radiator, Spal pusher fan, stainless steel overflow tank, new thermostat with manual over-ride, all new parts for conversion were provided by Advance Adapters including bell housing, transfer case bracket, motor mounts, transfer case stiffener by SOR, drive shafts modified by Driveline Specialists, new U-Joints.

Transmission and transfer case from a 1978 FJ60 4-speed with larger, stronger transfer case.  Inspected at time of restoration, and benefited from new seals and bearings installed prior to installation.

Atlas overdrive unit installed for spacing the engine conversion forward and for improved road drivability and to minimize wear and tear.  27% drop in overdrive.  Fully functional and usable in all gears both 2WD & 4WD.

Auburn Gear limited slip differential gear set installed on the rear differential for maximum traction off road and smooth driving on the road.

All new suspension components with a 2” lift with Rough Country spring and Rough Country shocks and 3-point lubricated shackles from Man-A-Free.

Wheels are Pro Comp Xtreme Series 52 steel, powder coated black.  BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires and a full size spare with all new acorn nuts on all wheels.

16 gallon fuel cell by Summit Racing relocated between the frame rails forward of the rear bumper and behind the rear axle and shock mount tube.  Fuel cell is completely enclosed inside a 1/8” steel plate box.

Power disc brakes (front & rear)  from Classic Cruisers of Colorado including: .  new calipers, rotors, and pads.  Vacuum booster and master cylinder are rebuilt and from a 1980’s vintage Toyota 4×4 pickup.  Parking brake on transfer case to rear drive-shaft joint was changed from small ineffective drum to large mechanical stainless steel drilled disc by TRW.

Interior has all new, fully functional VDO instruments including tachometer, speedometer, temperature, oil, ammeter, and fuel gauges. Gauges mounted on a custom laser cut and machined ½” aluminum plate.  New Corbeau seats with reclining feature, Crow racing belts with shoulder harnesses in front and lap belts on jump seats.  New Mom steering wheel, new Toyota turn signal switch, rebuilt and working heater, blower and vent components from SOR.  Pit-Bull tested diamond plate floor mats in front floor area and entire rear cargo area.

Alpine CDE-HD 1488BT tuner with AM/FM/CD/AUX & JL 360/4 amp driving a pair of roll bar mounted speaker enclosures.

Roof rack clamp mounts for SOR and Yakima hold an Adventure Basket.  Mounted to the basket are a pair of 7” Cibie yellow fog lights, single 6” rear facing fog light and an antenna mount.

Also included is a camouflage Bimini top and diamond plate aluminum doors that can be seen in some of the photos.
