This creation is one of eleven cars desinged and built by Hollywood Coach Builders in the 1970’s which consisted of George Barns (of Batmobile fame) and Joe Bailon, the creator of Candy Apple Red, and a tea of craftsmen.  All of the information on the car has been verified by George Barns and Joe Bailon.  The first three of these cars were Bailon’s.  He set things in motion for Barris to join in with Hollywood Coasch Builders.  Eight additional cars were sold to high profile stars including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Danny THomas, Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and Joe Conforte, the infamous owner of the Mustang Ranch in Reno Nevada.

The creation that exists now is an extension of what the original creators, Barris & Bailon had in mind in the seventies.  The present local owner and designer began with the original Bugazzi that had been sitting since 1985 when he took possesion of the car.  It was given to him by John Coliette, Joe Conforte’s right hand man and body guard.  With permission from George Barris and Bailon he started the restoration and improved on the orginal design.  It took he and a crew of craftsman over a year to turn the Bugazzi into a true custom show car with First Place and Best of Show awards in every venue entered.

The Bugazi garnered too many awards to list, but they include:

  • First Place, Grand National Roadster Show
  • First Place, Sacramento Autorama
  • First Place, San Francisco Rod & Custom Show
  • Best of Show, Ballon’s Blast from the Past
  • Best of Show, Summer Get Together, Auburn, CA
  • Best of Show, Pete Paulsen’s Ranch, French Camp, CA.
  • Class Act, Goodguy’s, Pleasanton, CA.
  • Numerous Hot Summer Nights and Local Awards
