Perhaps Road & Track said it best in their road test of the Lotus Elise when they exclaimed: “Spend a day of hard driving behind the wheel of an Elise and it all but ruins you for nearly every other sports car on earth. So immediate are its reactions, so effortless its exertions that thinking and doing become one. Every steering, braking and throttle input is met with an instant and exact response. Nothing is lost in translation. There’s no waiting, no wondering, just doing. In comparison, most everything else feels imprecise, heavy and slow.”
This 2007 Lotus Elise was first sold in San Francisco, California by British Motor Cars on 2/1/07, and remained has remained in Northern California since new. The Elise was acquired by its current owner, a long-time friend of Classic Cars Ltd. and avid enthusiast in 2009. He purchased the car from a friend who owned 3 Elise’s when the clock read 8K miles. During his 10 years of ownership, only 4K miles have been added with the car being used as an occasional weekend car, along with his other British collectible cars. The Elise was never tracked by either owner, always garaged, and extremely well maintained.
Since new, the car has received oil services every 3K miles or annually as a function of time, not miles. Proper Yokohama A048 tires are fitted and the car passed the required California safety inspection and was smogged (for California buyers) in mid-June.
The Lotus Elise is powered by a 1.8-liter all aluminum, DOHC, 16-valve, inline-four producing 190 hp @ 7,800 rpm. Mated to a 6-speed manual transaxle and weighing in at 1,975 the Elise has an excellent power to weight ratio with 0-60 mph times in the mid 4 second range, and quarter mile times of mid 13 seconds. However, what the Elise does best is offer a fun to drive experience that is matched by few sports cars. As Car & Driver said “It isn’t until you whirl the wheel of the car to which those numbers are attached that you realize what an incredible machine you’re piloting. It amazes like a Dwyane Wade drive to the hole; nothing should be able to move the way it does. It is, in short, breathtaking.”
This Elise is fitted with both available options, the Sport & Touring packages. A matching hardtop and black soft top are also included. The car has a hard wired trickle charger and comes complete with original owner’s manual and documents.
The current mileage shows 12,034 and the Elise has no history of paint work, damage, and the original Star Shield “Clear Bra” remains in place. Copies of the clean Carfax report can be seen in the extensive photos of the Lotus. The car carries a clear, California title with not encumbrances and a five (5) page inspection by an independent mechanic (attached).
The Chrome Orange (B25) paint is in excellent condition as the detailed, close up photos indicate. The car is reportedly free from any paintwork, touch up, accident damage, or significant imperfections. Any minor chips are largely confined to the original Star Shield protective coating and do not detract from the cars appearance. .
The optional Touring Package on this car adds additional “comfort” items including: a padded and insulated black soft top, leather seats and door trim, additional sound deadening, an upgraded stereo system with iPhone connector, an interior stowage net behind the passenger seat, and black carpet floor mats with embroidered Elise logos. The interior on this Elise is in excellent condition with no wear on the seat bolsters and fee from the characteristic scrapes / scratches on the driver’s side door sill and trim.
The upgraded Sport Package includes chassis components being specially tuned for improved handling and even occasional race track duty, should the new owner have these tendencies. The springs are 10% stiffer and utilize track-tuned shocks with height-adjustable spring perches. Its forged aluminum wheels, finished in matt black, are nearly 20 lb. lighter overall. Yokohama A048 tires (195/50R-16 front, 225/45R-17 rear) have been tuned specifically for the Elise. This track performance oriented setup added $2480.00 to the sticker price. .
For those interested in a less racy Elise, an available Touring package ($1350) adds leather seats/trim, electric windows, full carpeting and extra sound deadening. The running gear remains the same as stock. A Factory optional (+$1475) hardtop replaces the standard soft-top to help keep out the elements year-round.
Standard equipment for 2007 includes a leather-wrapped Momo steering wheel, power windows, power locks, alarm, and air conditioning.
Mechanically, in the most positive sense…no surprises. The car runs and drives “As-New.” It starts immediately with a push of the button, warms up immediately and shifts smoothly through all of the 6 gears. Braking is phenomenal as a result of the cars 4-wheel disc brakes and light weight. Steering is precise and the car stops and tracks straight and true. The parking brake is properly adjusted. The electrical system is fully functional including the key chain operated immobilizer, and all lighting systems, radio, and MP3 connection. Power windows operate as designed.
Several photographs of the underside can be seen in the gallery below. The original emissions equipment, aluminum under-trays, and suspension system with Bilstein shocks remain in place. The underside is incredibly clean, free from fluids and supports that the Lotus has never seen rain.
